I have a confession to make…

I think it’s time I told you something, and I hope you don’t hold it against me. 🙂

You see, I watch The Bachelor.

Phew. I’m glad that’s off my chest. Seriously, though, while it is my one TV guilty pleasure, I got into it years ago before I started doing this work. So, now, even though I’m attuned to the energy behind it, I think there’s a lot it can teach us about ourselves, and with the ending of this season, there are some insights I wanted to share with you. After all, everything is an opportunity to see ourselves better, if we choose it as such. 🙂

1. Our wiring.
The first thing The Bachelor can help us see about ourselves is our scarcity wiring. Have you ever noticed how we can get focused on one thing, whether it’s one mate, one solution to a problem, one idea or even just getting to our one end goal? Obviously in the case of The Bachelor, it’s one suitor, but this show can help us understand our wiring for getting stuck on one thing and forgetting that we live in a world of infinite possibilities, even if The Bachelor is cute, smart and sweet.

2. Our relationships.
The Bachelor can teach us a lot about our relationships, if we open to it. For one, it can teach us about communication and where not communicating can get you, which if you’ve seen the show, most of the times leads to a limo ride home. It can also teach us about trust and trusting, which for anyone reading this, looks different than assuming you’re going to end up with The Bachelor on the first episode or trying to control him in any way. Oh, and a big one. How we treat others will always come back to us.

3. Fear.
Have you ever noticed that many times, the exact thing you’re scared about is the exact thing that ends up happening? When we’re scared about something, and we try to avoid it, we can end up creating that exact thing. In the case of this season, one person expressed a fear of being “unlovable” and guess what happened on the show? If you guessed that she was sent packing, you’d be right.

4. The game of life.
On many levels, The Bachelor is set up as a sort of game or competition. And, unfortunately, because we can be wired to want to win, this can mean us forgetting if we even want the thing we’re going for and if that thing is even true for us. In the case of The Bachelor, I’m sure there’s many times when one of the ladies realized they didn’t even want the actual person they we’re going after. So, whether it’s on reality TV or in real life, competing for that new job, condo, you name it, it’s important when this programming comes up to step back and check in with yourself, take a few breaths and ask, “Is this something I really want?” Just knowing we have this programming and starting to attune to it when it is happening can be super helpful.

5. Don’t take yourself (or life!) too seriously.
It’s so interesting, as against the juxtaposition of “being here for the right reasons” and being serious about finding a mate, there’s a general feeling of being playful and not taking anything that happens on the show too seriously. From everything from jumping out of a cake to almost being blown away, how can we? In all seriousness, though, we can get so wound up in our days and ways, but this is actually a really great tool to apply to life. So, I ask you, “What’s one way you can be more playful and not take life and yourself so seriously?”

6. Being real.
For this, all you have to do is watch the show and do the opposite. 🙂 In all seriousness, though, there are so many times when someone thinks being what that person wants, instead of being themselves, will get them to the end. Usually, that doesn’t work, but even when it does, it doesn’t last. Again, stepping back and asking yourself, how you would trulyshow up, if you didn’t have any motive or desire in that situation, can help.

Do you watch The Bachelor too? If not, what’s your guilty pleasure? I’d love to know! Comment below and tell me if you’ve learned anything from yours too!

To reality being good (even if it is bad reality television)!
